Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers,
We are reaching out in our most desperate time of need, knowing we have an army of loved ones who wish to help and know more. With a blend of heavy hearts and hopeful spirits, we would like to share the story of my dear brother-in-law, Eric. He has been bravely battling end-stage renal disease since 2020. In early June, what began as a routine check-up quickly escalated into overnight tests, leading to emergency surgery and well over three months away from home, in the hospital. Eric has faced an excruciating journey that is still not over. After spending more than three months at UCSF Hospital, including two months in the Cardiac ICU, he underwent two life-saving heart surgeries. At one point, there was a possibility that he would need a heart, lung, and kidney transplants as a last resort; fortunately, we were able to avoid that outcome. This medical crisis has posed significant challenges physically, mentally, emotionally, and financially for the entire family. Regrettably, he lost his job during this time after depleting all his sick leave, PTO, and FMLA. The good news is that he is finally back home!
Adding to the stress, Eric's disability payments have yet to begin kicking in, offering absolutely no relief as they face overwhelming expenses, much of which is not covered by their insurance. His wife, Ryan, has demonstrated remarkable strength and resilience, managing to handle seemingly impossible tasks during this difficult period. She has taken on the role of his primary caregiver and advocate as he recovers at home, all while balancing a full-time job outside of the home, and caring for their wonderful and energetic little boy, Cameron, who has just started Transitional Kindergarten. Sadly, Eric missed the chance to celebrate this milestone, along with Cameron's fifth birthday, due to his hospitalization.
Meanwhile, Eric continues his nightly dialysis as they manage his new condition, eagerly awaiting the chance for a kidney transplant.
As bills keep piling up, we humbly ask for your support. Any contribution, no matter the size, would be greatly appreciated and will help ease some of their financial burden as Eric begins his long road to recovery. Additionally, if you could share this message with your friends and colleagues, we would be incredibly grateful.
We feel fortunate to have Eric with us today and are dedicated to supporting him, Ryan, and Cameron every step of the way. Thank you from the depths of our hearts for your love, care, and support.
With heartfelt gratitude and love,
