Hi, my name is Haleigh Gonzalez, and I’m reaching out with a heavy heart to share my mom's story. Since May, my mom, Emmy Gonzalez, has been living with me as she battles stage 4 kidney disease and stage 4 cirrhosis of the liver. This year has been incredibly hard for her, and in the past few months, things have gotten even more difficult. She’s been in the hospital over 10 times, and recently, severe circulation problems and gangrene in her feet led to the amputation of her left big toe. Sadly, doctors have informed us that they won’t be able to save any of her toes. She will need another surgery soon to help open blood flow to the rest of her feet to try and save what they can.
Before this latest setback, my mom was doing everything she could to get on the transplant list for her liver and kidneys. In fact, she has two days of testing scheduled in Dallas on the 14th and 15th to see if she can be placed on the waitlist. Unfortunately, with her current health issues, this could very well be put on hold. When we do go to Dallas for these tests, we’ll need help with travel expenses, hotels, and food, all of which are adding to the financial strain.
She’s schedule to come home later this week, but she will need round-the-clock care. As much as I want to be there for her, I work full-time and can’t do it all on my own. My siblings and I are doing our best, but the costs are overwhelming. My mom needs medical equipment like a wheelchair and a bedside commode, along with weekly antibiotics, and I need to make my home safer and more accessible for her.
On top of that, we’re facing a mountain of medical bills and will need some kind of professional nursing care for her at home. That’s why I’m asking for help. Any amount, big or small, will go toward giving my mom the care she needs and helping us manage the expenses that are piling up so quickly.
Thank you so much for reading this, and for any support you can offer. Your kindness means the world to me, my mom, and our whole family during this difficult time.
With love and gratitude,
Haleigh Gonzalez
