On Monday, September 16th, Eddie, Jessica, and Gabby’s lives were forever changed, Eddie suffered a major medical trauma that has sent shock waves through the community.
Eddie began his teaching career at Annapolis, Maryland in the English department then made his way south. He brought Broadway to Summerville via Cane Bay High School where he was the drama director from 2014-2019. During his tenure at CBHS, he taught his students everything he know. He pushed them, challenged them, drove them crazy but loved them fiercely. He was able to get the very best out of them and they produced Tony Award worthy performances such as, The Wizard of Oz, Beauty and the Beast, Guys and Dolls, Hairspray, and Shrek the Musical to name a few. But Eddie’s creative endeavors did not end with CBHS, he performed in The Flowertown Players production of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, assisted another high school with a major musical production, was the make-up artist for Boone Hall’s Fright Nights, and continued to mentor current and previous students.
Eddie had a kidney disease which required a transplant in 2019. He fought so hard through all of it. He battled rejection, infection, pneumonia, he showed grace and genuine thankfulness for all of those that helped him through it. The story of him getting his kidney is truly inspiring. It was a huge deal. The outpouring of love and support the community gave was overwhelming.
He has maintained a close relationship with his donor and they have become family.
Eddie was so touched by the care he received that he became the Transplant Coordinator at MUSC, the very hospital that saved his life, in return, he helped save hundreds of lives.
Eddie’s greatest accomplishment has been marrying the love of his life, Jessica. No two people on the planet are further on the spectrum than these two. He is loud, she is quiet. He is boisterous, she is tranquil. He is larger than life, she is his anchor. They both love with their whole hearts: their students, their family, their friends, each other, and their daughter Gabby, the light of their lives. When asked to describe Gabby, the resounding answer is, she has her mother’s sweetness but her father’s sass. To quote Eddie, “If I achieve nothing else in this lifetime, I’ll always have pride that this little girl will know safety, love and fun with her momma and dada”. Eddie has a wonderful smile but never as amazing as when he looks at his wife or daughter.
Eddie sent a text to his kidney donor that said “Being a girl dad is the best. I always tell people that no matter what happens- I’ve at least had 5 years more with my wife, had a gorgeous and funny baby, and found a dream job. People don’t understand that a transplant isn’t a cure. It’s trading one disease for another. I’m SO blessed that this version gave me my entire purpose in life!”
Today, September 21st, we received the results of Eddie’s MRI, and it confirmed our fears that the damage to his brain is severe, and the hospital is now focused on keep him comfortable.
Eddie’s story is much too short. The lives he has touched is probably in the millions. Now, it is time for us to dig deep and help this lovely family. The financial toll this will take is more than this family deserves. All proceeds will go directly to Hall family.
