We recently found out that a good friend of our family was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer. He has been working 6 days a week in a small restaurant as a chef and his wife recently got a job as a preschool teacher.

They have 3 sons; a 19 year old honor student at college and six year old twins who are among 2 of Silas' closest friends. They also support their children's grandfather, who lives with them and they purchased a new home just 4 months ago.

I know that they thought that their life was going well until just a few weeks ago when the husband got sick and didn't get better, instead, he just kept getting worse. It got so bad that he ended up going to the emergency room. That visit turned into a one week stay in which they drained 1.5 liters of fluid from around his heart. In their search to find out where the fluid was originating from, they diagnosed the lung cancer and discovered that it had also metastisized to his spine and heart.

Since he works for a small business and his wife is new at her job, he has no health insurance, and I cannot imagine the emotional and financial stress that they are experiencing. I would love to raise $15,000 to assist them with their living expenses in order to relieve a small portion of their financial burden and help them to spend more time together, as a family.
