Please Help Duane's Medical Expense

Please help with a US Veteran's medical expenses.

Within the span of a few months, I went from a realtively healthy, gainfully employed life to becoming a kidney dialysis patient, 100% disabled, unemployed, and in fear of losing our house, which was just purchased a little over a year ago (our first, as we had been renting all this time).

I never thought I'd be submitting this on GoFundMe, but I wouldn't if the situation wasn't so dire.

I was admitted to the hospital in early October of 2016, where I was diagnosed with acute renal failure. I was whisked into surgery to put in a chest catheter (two lines) that go directly into my heart. These are for access points to hook up the dialysis machine.

After 4 days, I was sent home, but was not instructed on any medication changes that turned out to be necessary.

Needless to say, within a week, my blood pressure dropped so severely that I had no strength to hold myself up to walk. I found this out on our way home from a store (the missus drove), and I could not get out or stand up. I literally crawled to get into the house from the garage and my wife and daughter helped me up onto a couch. I mistakenly thought it would pass, but it did not. We went back to the hospital - my blood pressure was about 60/40 and I was put in ICU at first. After medication adjustments and a few more dialysis treatments, I went home again.

I got home just in time to celebrate my 50th birthday at an outpatient dialysis center, where I now go 3 times a week (getting up at 4am to get there on time). They are currently discussing 4 times a week.

I am currently classifed as "100% disabled", and the disability checks that have just now started, aren't nearly adequate to pay current bills, much less the medical.

A little background on me - I am a US Army Veteran where I served in Camp Hovey (South Korea), Ft Stewart (Georgia), and entered the US Army Reserves in Lincoln, NE. I am married to the same wonderful woman since 1989.

When I speak to recruiters and apply for jobs, I do have to ask that I be given that time off for dialysis, and you can imagine the eagerness of employers wanting to take on an older person in relatively poor health (there are a myriad of other conditions I have as well, such as deafness, severe RLS, going blind, etc).

I am therefore, humbly asking for your generous support in helping me pay off the medical bills.

I remember when my dad died (long battle with heart disease), and I recall thinking that I always thought he was larger than life and invulnerable, that he just can't be dying.

My own kids relayed the very same to me, and I never thought of it that way for some reason. I've never considered myself anything special. For them, I again ask for your gracious and most generous help.

It would make a difference in this small part of the world.  I can never thank you enough or be able to adequately express my feelings of gratitude, but you can be assured that every dollar donated will be put to the express use of what I stated above.

Thank you and God Bless!
