Please Help Doreen Crush Cancer AGAIN!

Please bear with me. This was extremely difficult to write and I get wordy when I'm emotional. Please read this in its entirety.
I have known Doreen Davidson for more of my life than I have not. We have one of those easy friendships that stand the test of time. But Doreen makes it easy to love her, and believe me when I say, I am not alone in this long time love affair of Everything Doreen.
She has a wit about her that is simply unmatched. You cannot help but want to be around her. She lights up a room with her oh-so-distinctive laugh, and that beautiful smile, that instantly draws people in.
With a friendship spanning three decades, you can imagine how hard it was when she told me she had been diagnosed with DCIS breast cancer in 2019. It was caught early, so she was one of the lucky ones. No chemo. But she did have to have a lumpectomy and go through multiple radiation treatments. Being her cancer was stage 0, it looked like she would be able to move forward and try to get back to life. For a while, she did just that.
Thankfully, she was healthy during a very difficult time in her family's life. Many loved ones have been lost, and numerous close family members also faced/are facing their own fight with cancer. So many times Doreen has stood firm as her world randomly crumbled around her. But that does not stop her from being one of the first ones who will step up to help you pick up the pieces of your disaster, asking how she can help you rebuild. All while raising her son, Elijah, and daughter, Maddie. Elijah is a young, healthy, active teenager. Maddie, who is also in her teens, is smart, spunky, and bravely lives with Cerebral Palsy everyday.
Unfortunately, Doreen's strength continues to be tested.
I find it hard to even type the words.....
Doreen is now in the fight of her life. After weeks & weeks of intense pain, riddling her back, she has just been given a diagnosis of metastatic breast cancer. It has metastasized to her bones. It is in her spine and, unfortunately, thst means stage 4. With multiple lesions, some so big, and placed so deep, they have caused fractures to her back and pelvis. The pain is something I can only assume to be just short of unbearable. She started treatment immediately, with hormone blockers, injection, and radiation.... again.
I am thankful everyday Doreen has found her soul mate in her life partner, Haven. He has had to stop working to stay home, and help care for Doreen. As you can imagine, with both of them home, there is a building financial strain. But he will do whatever he needs to do, to make sure Doreen is cared for. Family is all that matters.
We do not know what the the future holds for Doreen and her family, being her treatment plan will be tweaked, as the doctors monitor her progress. We do know they need us all to pull together to help her, as she has helped so many others.
When I brought this up to Doreen, she reluctantly agreed. She said her dear friend, Chelsea, also asked about starting a fundraiser. Chelsea and I have come together to try to reach as many supporters as possible. I asked Chelsea to write down some thoughts that she would like to share with all of you. This is what she would like you to know about our dear friend, Doreen.
Chelsea writes:
"I have worked with Doreen since 2007. We became instant friends, and inseparable since. She becomes many people’s instant friend because there’s nothing to not love about her. I doubt I could find anyone that has a negative thing to say about her. She has a long list of lifelong friends that would agree.
Doreen made our often stressful work environment a blast with her humor and wit, and the care she shows to the people around her. She has been through so many trials in life, which helped her also connect in meaningful ways with the clients she served at ODHS. Many lives have been changed, for the better, because of her tireless work.
Doreen was recently promoted to her dream job within ODHS, which allowed her to work from home, making it much easier to care for Maddie. As hard as it is, she is now taking leave from her job to fight against yet another trial in life. I don’t know anyone more deserving of support from their community than Doreen. Let’s help ease the financial burden and take this load off of her and her family."
Chelsea, your words ring true.
In closing, I just ask that if you have even the smallest of donations, please help us help this very deserving family. They have been through the wringer, but they seem to become stronger through every crisis. And the love is always there.
Side Note: Maddie requires 100% liquid nutrition. Her Pediasure costs alone are $500 a month. The need to pull together, as a community, is a must. Please.
Thank you for reading this and for helping our friend.
We love you, Doreen. ❤
