Update 7/12/24-
Hey Everyone- Heather here ;)

He had his skin grafting surgery last week. They had to graft six areas rather than the three they had anticipated. They used ReCell which is a medical spray on skin graft for some of the areas but unfortunately, they also were required to remove large portions of his healthy skin for grafting as well.

Well, with a good portion of his body burned, they were limited on areas of healthy skin to take so they ended up removing very large portions of skin (think of the medical instrument version of a potato peeler!- I will spare you all the pictures) from his thighs and right calf. The removal of the healthy skin has been the most painful part of the journey and we are working hard on increasing his mobility so he can return to work before we are at risk losing health insurance.

We are continuing with daily dressing changes at home.....as much as he can tolerate :) Our house is filled with durable medical equipment- shower chair, cane, etc.....it's like living with a 90 year old! We are continuing to trek to Milwaukee weekly for rechecks but hoping there is an end in sight. We are hoping for an update at his appointment next week as to if/when he can return to normal activities, if he will need additional surgery based on how he is healing, etc.

We are forever grateful for all the kinds words, prayers, cards, texts, calls, visits and monetary donations that we have been showered with! We feel very loved and supported!

Hey Everyone! Heather here with an update: )
Pete was discharged home on Thursday. He is in incredible spirits! We had his first outpatient bandage change yesterday, Tuesday 6/25/24. The one hour bandage change turned into 3 hours but he was a trooper! He has his first (and hopefully only!) skin graft procedure scheduled on Wednesday 7/3/24 in Milwaukee. They anticipate anywhere from 2-4 day recovery inpatient following the surgery. We want to THANK EVERYONE from the bottom of our hearts for the kind words, cards, prayers and donations! It is going to be a slow recovery with no anticipated return to work date for Pete as he have to be concerned about his fine motor skills, mobility as well as his increased risk for infection prior to considering returning to work. We will continue to update as we know more. Again, thank everyone for everything....we are overwhelmed with all the love and we are forever grateful :)

Good morning with an update:
We were hoping he could go home today, but it is looking like Thursday will be the soonest. After this last change of bandages, it is looking like Pete will need (3) skin grafts instead of the previous (2) grafts- his abdomen, lower leg and right hand/arm. Overall, Pete is in great spirits, but his body is not quite doing what it needs to be. His kidneys are not working how they should be, he is low on sodium and the balance of his bladder is off. He is told some of these things go hand in hand with his injuries, so before he can go home, he needs all things to be cleared! Please continue to share, send messages and prayers for the family- it is more than appreciated and is really meaning the world to Pete and Heather. He has read the messages and is in disbelief and tears with how many people have reached out and shown such compassion and love for them. I will try to keep this updated as I get more information. Thank you all again so much for everything!

Hello darling people! We are hopeful for all the generous humans out there that we can ALL raise some funds to help support the very best brother-in-law and sister-in-law out there!

My brother-in-law Pete went up North to help complete an electrical project that needed to be done for his family on Friday. Without fail his rotten luck (something we always joke about) had him in the wrong place at the wrong time. A tragic campfire accident, with no fault of Pete’s caused him to receive 3rd and 2nd degree burns on 29% of his body. He was diagnosed with 3rd degree burns on his dominant right arm and hand as well as his entire abdomen. He was diagnosed with 2nd degree burns on both of his legs and other parts of his arm. His 3rd degree burn areas will require skin grafts in the next month and for weeks/months continued wound care.

Pete had to be transferred by multiple ambulances and med flighted to the burn center in Milwaukee to receive the best care. He needed to be placed in a medically induced coma to attempt to control the excruciating pain he was in and the shock his body was in. Late yesterday, Pete was able to get the tube removed and he slowly woke up and is in stable condition.

Pete has a long road ahead of him for recovery. He will be off work for quite a while and unfortunately his job as a Journeyman Electrician requires full use of both of his hands and abilities to move freely, lift heavy objects, climb ladders, etc. which all require strong use of his abdomen as well.

His family and friends are asking for your help!! Any amount you can donate to help raise funds while Pete is unable to work, bills not covered by insurance, Heather (his wife) who will need time off to help care for Pete (she is a nurse and is able to help with bandages and care/comfort while at home), take him to his upcoming surgeries/appointments and anything else that comes with a tragedy like this.

Pete and Heather are not the type to ask for any sort of help, but his family is here to ask for them. Ask anyone, Pete is the most deserving, happy, loving, hard-working and selfless person out there! Ask the next random person you meet, and they will tell you about a Pete Pingitore they know and how he made their day or helped them out.

Please know even $1.00 will make a difference and is beyond appreciated and his entire family is extremely grateful for your empathy and consideration to help some of the best people out there! You can also send a check, Heather's venmo (HeatherPingz 1883 last four of cell) or facebook pay- please reach out if you would like to donate that way. If you are unable to donate, please leave a happy message- Pete will love that! He is extremely jovial and has already been making jokes and apologizing to nurses for him being there. The family is also welcoming prayers or any happy and healing thoughts you want to send his way!

The Pingitore Family and friends thank you from the depths of our hearts and please know how much it means to Pete and Heather for your kindness and generosity!
