Since the first day I met Lucia, she has been a true friend. As someone who has always given her time and guidance. Lucia quickly grew into a mentor and is now a lifelong friend. I am incredibly grateful to have her, and her family, in my life. After organizing, building, and working in the immigrant movement for over 17 years- the challenges have taken an emotional and financial toll on her family.

Recently Lucia's mom, Ms. Doly, was diagnosed with Sciatica which comes from having a herniated disc. She now faces limited mobility, medical appointments, physical therapy, and regular weekly therapy. This medical diagnosis was sudden, and Lucia now acts as her mother's caretaker and main provider while working full-time. Like many immigrant parents, Doly also provides much-needed financial support for her family in her home country. All of these financial needs are currently being held by Lucia, who cannot single-handedly bare all of this alone without her community.

Many immigrant rights organizers and leaders have been welcomed at Lucia’s mother’s home for years. Housed and fed by Ms. Doly during events, protests, and difficult moments. While she has not been on the ground organizing, her role in the movement has been of care for many of us, and she needs her community to care for her as well in this moment.
