UPDATE AUGUST 19: As the toll continues to rise, current reporting says there is very little relief effort present, though the US Coast Guard and USAID have begun airlifting people to medical facilities and sheltering people in a few locations. Tropical Storm Grace halted efforts from the Civil Protection Directorate, but with the tropical storm passing, new convoys of emergency aid and supplies were sent to the Southern Peninsula yesterday. The first $1500 from this fundraiser reached the agency yesterday morning and is contributing to that effort. I wish it were much more. The agency is still vastly undermanned and underfunded, but until more groups reach the affected area, they are still one of the only presences, however small.
I will keep this up until Saturday morning when I'll send the remaining funds raised. At that time, more organizations should be on the ground, and moving forward groups like Hope for Haiti, Haiti Emergency Relief Fund, and Global Giving will likely be the best places to send additional aid. But, until then, I encourage anyone who can to continue to donate here to go to additional resources for the Civil Protection Directorate. For those who have already given, I sincerely thank you, but ask that you continue to spread the word.

On Saturday, August 14th, the southern peninsula of Haiti was hit with a massive, 7.2 magnitude earthquake. As of when this was written, over 700 are reported dead, with thousands injured, thousands of homes destroyed, and those numbers will continue to rise.
While there are many great, trustworthy, worthwhile organizations that will aid in the weeks and months to come, there is immediate need for temporary housing and medical aid. Speaking with a trusted friend in Haiti, I was routed to the country's National Emergency Response Center under the Directorate of Civil Protection, which will be able to most quickly divert funds directly to these efforts.
This is a short fundraiser (since it's for immediate aid) where all funds will go directly to the National Emergency Response Center for immediate deployment. Please give what you can, and share this with others. Thank you.
