Tragically I have to add some terrible news to the story I have been sharing with you about Denise, her family and her fight to survive cancer.
Chuck and Denise have lost their beloved son Jordan, just 16 years old. On September 18th, he took his own life. Kaycee, his 21 year old sister, her parents and their whole family are devastated. Your thoughts and prayers are again requested.
I want to share a little more about Denise. She grew up in Pinole, Ca. with her four siblings, her parents, and grandparents. She loved drama in high school, which very much fits her vivacious, outgoing and warm personality. She has a wonderful supportive family. I have included photos of Denise and her family in hopes of giving you a sense of who Denise is. She is a great mom, sister, wife, friend and daughter. A loyal person and a hard worker!
Twenty three years ago Denise married Chuck Surman. Chuck has worked at C&H Sugar for many years. Denise has worked as a dental assistant and office manager for a dental office. She also worked in a construction office. Chuck’s sister, Kerry and brother in law, Brian, had twins 13 years ago. When Kerry went back to work, Denise babysat the twins from the time they were 6 mos. old until they started school.
Denise has been working, the last few years, for a company named Plan-It. Plan-It employees set up games, huge slides and jumpers, etc., for other companies who put on parties for their employees. She loves her job even though it is very physical. At times, she drives the truck for the company. Kaycee and Jordan had also worked at Plan-It. Oftentimes, they would work together on jobs and Denise said it had brought them closer as a family.
Denise has not been able to work since she was diagnosed with colon cancer three months ago. Denise faces four months of chemo and 6 weeks of radiation therapy as well as eventual surgery. Denise’s mother, Diane Parks, father and stepmother, Larry and Lucy Parks and siblings Mike, Kelli, Kim and Missy are doing all they can to support her emotionally and physically. Chuck’s mother, June, is also available to her at those special times when she needs spiritual support.
We are asking for your thoughts and prayers through this difficult time. It is hard for Denise to get the strength to fight for her own life after losing Jordon. She knows Kaycee needs her, as does her whole family-please send her your support, strength and love.
Denise and her family will be without her income during the months of treatment and long recovery period. We know times are tough for many of us. Any contribution you can make, no matter how small it might be - will go a long way to ease the stress for Denise and her family. They will forever be heartbroken over losing Jordan.
Many thoughts of love and appreciation are sent to you for your warmth and generosity.
