Please help Delayla & her family ❤️

This is an update as of February 4th, 2024:
Initially our family was not comfortable sharing the specifics of this traumatic experience, but after lots of prayer and consideration we felt it would be best to share the details publicly.

On January 19, 2024 my 16 year old niece was brutally attacked by her family dog of five years and his life was taken to save hers.

As a result of the incident, she had life threatening injuries, including: severed arteries in her right arm, nerve and tissue damage on both arms, frostbite on her feet (severe on her left foot) and other injuries to her legs.

Due to these injuries Delayla has had five surgeries in three weeks. The initial surgeries were to save her right arm and the following surgeries were to repair the damaged tissues, including using skin from her legs to replace skin missing from her arms, and to hopefully restore function in all of her extremities.

Delayla has a long road ahead of her. Once she is released from the hospital she will most likely be moved to a rehabilitation center to start the next steps of her difficult recovery.

Throughout this process Delayla has been great spirits and an inspiration to all of us. God has been working through her and she is hoping that her testimony will one day be a blessing to others.

We appreciate any and all help and support that people are generous enough to provide. Above all else we just ask for continued prayers for Delayla and our family.

January 29th, 2024 As many of you know, our family has recently been asking for prayers for Delayla and for our family. On January 19, Delayla was involved in a tragic accident that resulted in critical injuries. She was transported to the University of Chicago hospital where she has undergone four surgeries in four days. One of the surgeries lasted 12 hours. Some of you know what happened, but out of respect for her family, we won’t go into any details regarding the incident.

First and foremost, thank you to the MANY prayer warriors who have been sending their love and calling on The Lord on our behalf. God has heard your prayers, He has performed great miracles , and we’re so thankful that she is recovering and we’re trusting God for a total recovery.

She is still in ICU and will remain there for the next few weeks. Once she’s released from the hospital, she’s expected to be admitted to a rehab hospital until she’s recovered enough to go home.

Gaby and Izzy have been at her side day and night making sure that their little girl gets the best care possible. Family members have been supporting them at the hospital and at home with the other children.

During this time, and in the coming months, they will have to miss work, miss out on overtime pay they depend on, travel from Aurora to Chicago and back, pay for parking at the hospital, continued medical coverage and other miscellaneous expenses. While they haven’t asked for any help other than prayers and help with Delayla and the kids, we understand that this is creating a financial hardship on their family. Since many people have reached out asking how they can help, we thought it might be a good idea to start a GoFundMe account and anyone interested in helping can donate.

While we appreciate any donations, it’s most important that everyone please continue to lift up Delayla and our family in prayers. We are most concerned with keeping the focus on her healing and watching how God works all things for our good.

From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you…for the prayers, for the love, for the calls, for the messages, for the kind thoughts, and thank you for understanding when we’re not able to respond timely or can’t talk. All of this is helping sustain us during this difficult time. God bless you.
