Please help Debra Bolanos

Update: I want to thank everyone for their donations. Please continue to share. Debbie is no longer intubated and is off of sedation. She can follow some commands and the physical therapist visited her today. While Debbie is showing some progress, she still has a long ways to go with her recovery. She is currently battling a lung infection and is very, very tired. Her husband Danny is so grateful for all of the prayers and donations.

Hi, my name is Tina Frey and on behalf of her family and friends we are raising funds for Debra Bolanos. For those of you that don't know Debra, she is an avid horsewoman who just finished the Tevis Cup Virtual Ride on her quarter horse gelding. The Tevis Cup Virtual Ride consists of riding 100 miles and logging your hours. Debra rode many hours in the area where she boards her horses at End of the Trail Ranch in Perris as well as enjoying trail rides at a variety of places throughout the Inland Empire. On June 10, 2023, while trail riding in Perris, Debra was thrown from her horse and suffered a traumatic brain injury. I know everyone is going to ask these questions, so here are the answers. Yes, Debra was riding with another lady and yes she was wearing her helmet. Debra was also wearing an equestrian safety vest. For unknown reasons, Debra's gelding spooked and Debra's helmet flew off her head. Debra was transported to Inland Valley Hospital which is a level II trauma center in Lake Elsinore. The type of injury Debra has is called Diffuse axonal injury which is the shearing (tearing) of the brain's long connecting nerve fibers (axons). DAI usually causes coma and injury to many different parts of the brain. Debra had emergency surgery to remove part of her skull to relieve the pressure. She is intubated and has a long recovery ahead of her. The latest update is the doctor's are recommending a percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy which is to place a small tube into her stomach to feed her as she cannot swallow on her own. This tube could be temporary or permanent. They are also recommending a tracheostomy because Debra cannot breath on her own. This procedure will consist of inserting a tube at the front of her neck to help her breathe. Both of these procedures are scheduled for June 19, 2023. The duration Debra will remain in ICU and the hospital is unknown.

Debra's husband Danny has been by her side, arriving at the hospital at 4 am everyday and staying until 11 pm. Danny was just advised his insurance is not going to cover the majority of the medical expenses. Danny's every waking moment is to support his wife during this tragic time and worrying about medical expenses is eventually going to take a toll which is why we are setting up this Go Fund Me. Fellow horsemen and women, we all participate in a sport that can be dangerous. We ride because we love our horses and Debra is no different than any of us. Debra did everything right, she was wearing a helmet and her horse was well trained and experienced. Debra is the first person to help another person out and was one of the biggest cheerleaders for riders participating in the Virtual Tevis Cup. I would see her positive comments and encouraging words written on posts of people she had never met. This just goes to show you her loving spirit and the camaraderie our horse community shares.

If it is in your heart to support Debra, we ask that you please donate to this Go Fund Me. Any amount will help. I can personally attest that Debra's husband and family are genuine and appreciative of any support they receive. If you cannot donate monetarily, please reach out to others and share this request. Most importantly, please cover Debra and her family in your prayers. I personally believe in the power of prayer. Thank you for reading this and supporting Debra.

We also have venmo available, it is under Orlando Bolanos [phone redacted]. Thank you everyone, please share with family and friends.
