Dear friends,

Asking for help is not something I'm accustomed to or comfortable doing, particularly regarding financial matters. However, after living at the poverty level for more years than I'd like to count and being on disability twice since 2017 (which didn't even cover the rent), I'm having trouble coming up with the money to move house.

I'm not being kicked out, but I feel I've long overstayed. I'm shooting to relocate sometime in November, before the holidays.

I've lived in 2 temporary places since March 2020, and during this time, I’ve had to pay the high storage cost for most of my belongings. My current living space is too small to work comfortably from home. I thank my dear friends who have allowed me to live in their guest house, and I appreciate them letting me pay a very reasonable rent. Without them, I don't know where I would've ended up.

I'm in this situation mainly because of serious and chronic medical issues (open heart surgery in 2018 and Type 1 insulin-dependent diabetes). I was forced to live below the poverty line to qualify for Medi-Cal to get the medical attention I needed. Simply put, I would have likely died without Medi-Cal, so staying alive and being poor was the choice I had to make.

Between medical troubles, the pandemic, and struggling to keep a roof over my head, I have zero savings. So, friends, I'm looking for assistance with the first month and deposit, moving costs such as setting up utilities, a desk for my work computer/monitors and a few dollars in the bank to pass a credit check. Unfortunately, at this time, my family is unable to help.

I recently got a new job that appears to be stable, pays a decent wage, and provides me with good health insurance and a way to (hopefully) afford the skyrocketing rents in Los Angeles, so things are looking up.

Many people have also had it rough over the past few years. However, if you have a few extra bucks for a friend, I would appreciate it immensely. If you would prefer it to be a loan, that works too. Anything you might be able to help me with would mean the world to me.
