Please Help David Fight for His Education

David Cruz is one of the most determined and hardworking people I know. As his mentor, I’ve seen his passion for becoming a lawyer and helping others, even while facing challenges that most of us can’t imagine. But now, David’s dream is being taken from him.

David lives with cerebral palsy, a condition that makes daily life a constant challenge. He requires round-the-clock care for basic needs like getting out of bed and preparing meals. Despite these obstacles, David has excelled in law school and remained committed to his education.

However, his law school has made it nearly impossible for him to continue. While they have previously allowed him to take core and elective classes online, they now refuse to let him take the rest of his core legal courses remotely that would allow him to complete the program and accomplish his goals—even though during COVID-19, students were able to take courses online. For David, attending in person isn’t just difficult—it’s not practicable. His documented medical needs and the statewide shortage of caregivers make it impossible for him to safely attend classes on campus.

David has done everything in his power to make this work. He would attend in person if he could, but his circumstances simply don’t allow it. The school is fully aware of his situation—it’s been documented—and yet they have chosen not to continue to accommodate him, without reason. Instead, they have forced him into a position where he is at risk of being removed from the program entirely.

David is heartbroken, but he’s not giving up—and neither am I. We’re raising funds to help him fight this injustice, cover the costs of his legal fees, and explore ways to keep pursuing his dream of becoming an attorney.

This fight isn’t just about David’s education. It’s about fairness, access to education, and ensuring that people with disabilities are not shut out of opportunities they’ve worked so hard to earn.
