Hi, my name is Kym, and I’m reaching out with hope in my heart.
I am the very proud owner of the most loving Great Dane in the world – my beautiful boy, Dave. Earlier this year, in February 2025, Dave sadly began suffering from seizures. While medication has helped at times, his condition is worsening week by week.
Every day, Dave now experiences multiple pre-seizures where he suddenly loses control of his legs and collapses. Watching this happen to him is heartbreaking, and I feel so helpless.
Since this began, I’ve discovered that canine epilepsy is something many vets don’t often encounter – especially in a dog as large as Dave. Every vet we’ve seen has tried their best, but it’s clear that his case is unusual and complex.
Earlier this year, I was fortunate to meet a wonderful locum vet who had experience with epilepsy. She mentioned there’s a chance Dave’s seizures could be linked to a brain tumour. At the time, he didn’t show the typical signs such as walking sideways or major behavioural changes. Sadly, things are now progressing – today (05.09.25) he had a seizure that left him conscious but completely absent for several minutes afterwards.
The next step is to get Dave a brain scan. This will allow us to understand what is truly happening and how best to treat him. Unfortunately, every vet I’ve contacted so far has quoted £4,000 or more. As a single dog mum, I simply can’t afford this.
The Royal Veterinary College (RVC) may be able to help at a lower cost, but it will still be expensive. I don’t yet have the exact figure, but anything donated will go directly towards Dave’s scan, treatment, and ongoing care.
Since February, I’ve already spent all of my savings on his medication, vet visits, and emergency overnight stays. I’m now at the point where I’m struggling to cover my own bills while also trying to keep up with Dave’s medical needs.
I am praying it isn’t a brain tumour. But without this scan, we’ll never know – and I can’t stand the thought of him suffering without answers. His current medication is already at its maximum safe level, yet his seizures continue.
Dave is my whole world. He’s a gentle giant with the kindest soul, and he deserves every chance to live a happy, comfortable life.
Any donation, no matter how small, would mean the absolute world to us. Thank you so much for reading our story and for supporting us in any way you can.
With gratitude,
Kym & Dave
