Hi all. Our dear friend and brother Darrell is going through a very challenging time and really needs our help. Instead of writing this from my perspective to reach you we worked with him directly to put into his own words to help understand his story and what’s happening. ❤️❤️❤️
My name is Darrell Tapley.
I’ve spent my life immersed in friendships, music, and visual arts.
My goal has always been to spread love thru music, and to inspire critical thought, empathy and humor through human interactions and visual art. In late April of this year, I received a phone call that changed everything in my life.
After going to check out a potential hernia and unknown gut issues, later I was told I have advanced cancer in the liver with some small areas of spread nearby.
Also, I found out I had to wait to resolve the hernia for an unknown period of time due to the cancer.
Having lost my beloved mom nearly seven years ago to pancreatic cancer, this news rattled me even harder to the core than I would have expected. I continued working my carpentry job as long as I could, but the many demands of the treatment process made working no longer feasible. I find the bulk of my energy going towards: living with a hernia, very irregular sleep patterns, weekly fluid drainings, side effects of the treatment drugs, chaotic appointment schedule, rigorous diet demands, and elevated exhaustion.
The goal is to raise enough funds to enable me to stay afloat in this horribly costly economy while being able to focus all my strength on battling this disease. I am extremely fortunate to have been approved for full coverage regarding medical bills.
All funds raised will go exclusively toward living expenses and mounting car repairs only. I grew up very poor and was raised by a proud single mom of three. Asking for help has never been a strong tool in my tiny family’s skill set. As I have run out of options, I am forced to face the music, and open up to ask for help. This fight will be a marathon for me and my inner circle. Anything you can and open up to ask for help.
This fight will be a marathon for me and my inner circle. Anything you can spare will go a long way in my world.
It takes a village. I love you all.
