Anyone who knows Damon knows he has a zest for life, loves joking around and laughter, enjoying life to the fullest and being with his friends and family. This is what makes this situation so difficult.
After months of intense back pain, numerous imaging studies, medical exams and treatments Damon learned the cause of his back pain. In March a cat scan revealed two tumors, one on his spine and one on his hip. A bone biopsy early April gave him the news WE all fear. Damon was diagnosed with multiple myeloma cancer. Multiple myeloma is a rare cancer of the plasma cells. It is not curable... only treatable, with hopes of going into remission. Most patients go into remission 3-7 years before needing to restart the treatment process. Multiple myeloma requires radiation, chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant. Damon immediately began radiation with the goal being pain relief. This was unsuccessful. He is currently undergoing chemotherapyand will complete that treatment mid July. He is scheduled to begin a bone marrow transplant in Greenville SC in late August. This is a process that will take 6-7 weeks to complete and will require him to live in Greenville the entire time. The recovery period is an additional 2-3 months once the transplant is completed.
Damon has been self-employed for the majority of his life, but this pain and diagnosis has made it impossible for him to work since December, and he has been laid up from the negative effects of the cancer and chemo. This has created a financial and emotional strain on him. He has been unable to provide for his family the way he would like. He has a 6 year old daughter, Baylee who means the world to him. Not being able to help her has been very trying for him.
Cancer has been financially draining. His care and treatment have been intensive as well as a financial burden His exhausted his savings over the last 7 months. With a mortgage, utilities, truck payment and out of pocket expenses for medical charges. He will hopefully be in remission, get his strength back and be able to return to work in 2021.
This is an emotional and physical journey. Damon would be very grateful that you have taken the time to read this and very appreciative of any assistance you can provide. You can help us reach the goal of going into remission later this year by relieving some of the burden he has financially. Thanks so much from Damon, his family and close friends. Much love and peace to all of you and God bless.
