Coming together to save Damayanti Peters Lepcha

Sameer and I are raising funds for our most dear relative, Damayanti Peters Lepcha, 48 years who lives in Mirik, a small village town in Darjeeling, West Bengal, India. She is a homemaker, a loving wife, a doting mother, a kind soul and an honest and genuine human being and we love her dearly. She is a hard worker trying to make ends meet by running a small school cafeteria which was out of business ever since the pandemic hit hard.

The ordeal began on the morning of 25 May 2021, when her husband, our dear uncle found her lying on the bathroom floor unconscious. She had suffered a massive stroke. Because there are no adequate medical facilities in the small village town of Mirik, she had to be driven 2 hours to another town, Siliguri. Hospital beds were hard to find due to the pandemic and she was refused admission to many hospitals until one (Basu Clinic) finally accepted her for which we are very grateful. She was immediately diagnosed with Subarachnoid Haemorrhage and PICA aneurysm. Tracheostomy was done to ease her breathing and Ventroperitoneal shunting was done to stop the bleeding. Treatment is ongoing but she is still unconscious and is clinging on to life.

The entire family has come together to help financially, but funds are running out as each day in the hospital costs about $600 and bills are running high. Doctors have advised to go for a procedure called Aneurym Coiling which costs over $10,000 in India. Thereafter, she needs long term support on a ventilator, and we don’t know how long that is going to be. But we do not want to let her go.

We are in a race against time and want her to have all the best of treatments and are reaching out to all our friends, colleagues, well-wishers and good Samaritans for help.

Your contributions will make a big difference and every penny counts in our effort to add precious time to the life of a beautiful soul. Even if nothing, your prayers are needed....

Thank you. We remain hopeful and grateful,
