Please HELP Crystal survive Huntington’s Disease

10/30/2020 UPDATE:
I know I have been updating everyone on Facebook about Crystal's status but I wanted to take a minute to update you on this forum as well. We took Crystal out of the hospital and got her settled into an Assisted Living Facility. Next week we are looking at actually transferring her to another ALF closer to both where Steve and I live. Thank you so much again for your generous donations. Partial funds have paid for 1 month deposit at her new ALF, doctors visits, and medication. We are hoping that she gets her Medicaid/Disability sooner rather than later. The rest of the funds will be used for her monthly ALF expenses & therapy. We can't thank you so much for your support and love!!!

"Huntington's disease (HD) is a fatal genetic disorder that causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain. It deteriorates a person's physical and mental abilities usually during their prime working years and has no cure."

Crystal was gorgeous, vibrant, and full of life. She was able to read novels in 1 day and could write poems and stories that would melt your heart.  This disease stripped her of her life where she is now not even able to pick up a pen to write her own name.

Crystal Monger is a  39 year old who is dying from Huntington's Disease. She  had been living with her brother and his family for years but they recently moved and are no longer able to care for her. At this point she is homeless and is in DESPERATE need your help, prayers, and assistance. She has filed for Disability which can take YEARS (even with a Disability attorney helping her), her Medicaid has not kicked in yet (and even when it does it only covers up to $1400/month at an Assistant Living Facility).  ALF's can range from $2900-over $6,000/month.

Crystal needs 24 care...ASAP! Her life depends on it. She needs help bathing, getting dressed, eating (without choking) , speech therapy, physical therapy, mental counseling, medication regimen...etc.

Crystal has had a very tough life to say the least. She was born  with this terminal illness  that she was unware of until she got diagnosed at the age of 30. Her father abandoned her when she was an infant. When she was a toddler, she was in and out of the hospital for 2 years because they had to replace her hips with metal rods. In high school, the first love of her life Tim (her stepfather) passed away unexpectedly. By 11th grade, Crystal had to live with Lisa's family because she was abused at home by her mother. Her mother then passed away at the young age of only 43 from Huntington's Disease.  All of Crystal's family have passed away from HD (minus her brother).

2 weeks ago, I picked up Crystal from the bus stop where her brother dropped her off. She had nothing but a suitcase and tears running down her face. I had admitted her to Boca Regional Medical Center because she looked malnourished and unable to stand and I was fearful for her life.  She was admitted for 2 weeks and did not "qualify" for a skilled nursing facility so they discharged her...she is now living in a hotel till we can figure out our next move. We have contacted Assistant Living Facilities, DCF, Homeless Shelters and have gotten nowhere.

Every penny helps...PLEASE donate! We are going to use funds to get her into an Assistant Living Facility which can provide her the care that she needs to live out the rest of her beautiful life on this earth.

Love,
Steve, Laura, and Crystal
