My wife, Cristal, needs your help to fight her biggest battle yet against cervical cancer! Last September she was admitted to the hospital after experiencing heavy bleeding and internal pain. Doctors informed us that she was pregnant and diagnosed her with complete Placenta Previa, which now we were told that was not the case.
On February 21st, 2021, Cristal, 38 weeks pregnant at the time went in to check on our baby girl because something seemed off. Her vitals were low and so were the babies. Doctors quickly transported her to a larger hospital where they did further labs and ultrasounds. They told her she was in active labor with low red blood cell count and that they were shocked she was even able to carry our baby girl at all. Doctors also informed us that they had to deliver the baby immediately and that she had a large mass in her cervix area that had been causing the bleeding throughout her pregnancy. Our world was turned upside down and now a simple delivery became a mission to save her life and the life of our newborn baby girl. Doctors had to give her 2 units of blood before surgery even began. Thankfully, both she and our baby came out of surgery okay.
Unfortunately, soon after her delivery, Cristal and I were told that they could not remove the mass they had found. They did a biopsy and it was in fact cervical cancer. Absolutely shocking for the both of us.
After being discharged we met with the Oncologist who informed us that she would need CT scans and full cancer treatment: radiation, chemotherapy and surgeries. They indicated this needed to have started yesterday if that were possible. Unfortunately, we couldn't even start it today because she has not had insurance since I separated from the Military. Due to her immigration status she is not eligible for any Medicaid or state programs. Meaning all cost will be out-of-pocket. The figures are astronomical.
