Hello! We're Giselle and Agustín, Astro's parents. On Friday, September 5, Agustín was taking care of the plants outside. Our two kittens were with him because we sometimes let them out into our fenced front and backyard. Unfortunately, a neighbor was walking his two dogs off-leash, and one of them ran directly toward Astro in the small space between our townhouse and our neighbor's.
Astro and Nena were born in our house. When we moved in, their mother—a feral cat—began visiting us. We left her food, water, and shelter outside. When she became pregnant, we named her Zari, and Agustín prepared a space for her to give birth. She loved it, and five kittens were born. We took care of the kittens inside our house for a couple of weeks, and then we took them to a shelter to be adopted. We kept Astro and Nena, and the other three were adopted through the Brandywine Valley SPCA.
Despite being only 6 months old, Astro tried to escape and defend himself. However, the adult dog caught him, bit him, and broke the bone in his right pelvis, as well as causing other injuries. Agustín intervened and was able to free Astro.
We love dogs. We grew up with them. Our oldest dogs were with us for 15.5 and 18.5 years. They are family. If the other dogs had been kept on leash while on the public sidewalk as required, Astro wouldn’t have gotten hurt. Astro would like for everyone to remember this but now he needs your help. ❤️
According to the veterinarian at the emergency hospital and an orthopedic surgeon, Astro needed a fracture repair procedure on his long bone to help him live better.
On September 10, Astro went to Fusion Veterinary Orthopedics in Lanham, Maryland. The surgery was successful, and Astro is now in the midst of a three-month recovery process.
Like other families facing unexpected medical bills, we humbly ask our family, friends, and community for support.
Please reach out if you would like to verify any details. Any help with the surgery bill would be greatly appreciated. ❤️
We want to give Astro the best life possible! His sister, Nena, is anxiously waiting to play with him again.
Thank you for reading our story — and for helping our sweet kitten.
With love and gratitude,
Giselle, Agustín, Astro & Nena
