Please Help Christian McCoy & Family

Hi! My name is Jessica, and I’m fundraising to assist Christian McCoy and his family. Christian is like a son to me and my entire family. He is best friends with my sons and has been with us to family vacations for many years. We treat him like our own. He was a fantastic baseball player for Tomball High School, where he played with my sons. His talents led to play college baseball in Oklahoma, where he really shined as a pitcher for Carl Albert State College Vikings. Eventually, his battle against seizures forced him away from the game he loves.
Christian's seizures began at the age of 12 and for the first few years they were controlled with one medication. Over time, the doctors had to increase his dosages and add additional medications to help reduce the amounts of seizures he was having daily. He had reached a stage where he was taking 4 different medications to keep his epilepsy at bay. His seizures and auras began to take over his life. The seizures were increasing in their frequency, and he was starting have some difficulty recovering after they would appear.
Christian spent his entire life in Tomball, Texas, where he was a fantastic athlete that played Varsity Baseball for Tomball HS. He went on to graduate in 2019 with a scholarship to play college baseball for Carl Albert State College in Poteau, OK. Once his baseball career came to an end, he made the decision to shift his focus squarely on education. Upon returning home, he decided to pursue his other passion of umpire duties at Tomball Little League during the summer and fall. Christian has always loved working with kids and passing on all he has learned over his years of playing baseball at multiple levels. Christian also started a full-time job with his dad Shane, along with continuing his education at Lone Star College in Tomball for a business degree in accounting.
In September 2021, he had a severe seizure attack that left him hospitalized for a week. During this time, he was experiencing between 6-8 seizures per hour. It was determined that Christian needed to proceed with step 2 of the surgical process and have an SEEG performed. Stereo electroencephalography, also called stereo-EEG or sEEG, is a minimally invasive procedure that uses electrodes placed directly in the brain to identify where epileptic seizures start. On February 28, 2022, Christian went in for surgery. The procedure was successful and his whole team was elated that they were going to be able to help him with his seizures long term. We were all excited for Christian to have an 80% chance of never having seizures again.
Christian’s recovery was expected to be in 3 to 4 days. Although his procedure itself went well, he had an ischemic stroke in a different area of his brain that went unnoticed and ran its course on his brain. An ischemic stroke occurs when the blood supply to part of the brain is interrupted or reduced, preventing brain tissue from getting oxygen and nutrients. Brain cells begin to die in minutes. This stroke affected the left side of his body, including his arm and leg. Christian has regained some movement in his extremities, but at this point, they are very weak. He chances for a full recovery are high, but the work needed will be a huge strain on him mentally. His recovery it will take a tremendous amount of time, patience, and prayers. We are so thankful to our Lord and Savior for his blessings.
He has now been moved to an inpatient rehabilitation facility in the Vintage area to start his long journey. Christian will require 2 to 3 months of aggressive rehab, which will include speech, occupational, and physical therapies. He will need his family to support him as he battles to regain his strength and mobility. They will also encourage him as he struggles with the emotional pain and frustration, he goes through this. Once he can come home, he will begin outpatient therapy for 3 to 4 days a week for another couple of months. The most critical period for a stroke patient is the 1st 4 to 6 months. During this time, he will get his most significant gains in rehabilitation. His complete rehabilitation will continue for months after the inpatient stays. The family’s insurance will cover most of these expenses, but Christian will need months of Outpatient therapy to rehabilitate his weakened left side from the stroke. The family will have to cover all the rest that the insurance doesn’t.
Please join them to pray, fast, and stand on God’s word. Waiting on his next Miracle and His Glory Alone. Thank you in advance for your generosity
