Brooklyn was born on the streets of Baku, Azerbaijan in February, 2020. At 3 months old, he suffered a spinal cord injury (shot by a cruel motorist) that left him "hopelessly" paralyzed. GWARP, an amazing rescue, saved Brooklyn and brought him to the US in January of 2021. He was severely underweight, missing fur all over, and recovering from a tick borne illness. Joey's Paw gave us wheels, and Brooklyn, for the first time, had a soft bed to sleep on and lots of toys and love. He doubled his weight, built up his stamina on wheels, and, best of all, he started regaining feeling in his legs and tail!

Brooklyn was fortunate enough to do physical therapy weekly for two years, which dramatically improved his quality of living. Unfortunately, the facility closed in December 2024 and we have been without PT since then. Brooklyn is losing core strength and agility, and the spasticity in his weaker leg has increased, all of which impede his mobility and comfort. We have had to return to using the stirrups with his wheels , as he can no longer keep his rear legs up to prevent wounds on his paws. He is moving slower and his stamina is lower, making walks tougher.

We have the opportunity to do physical therapy again, as Brooklyn's physical therapist now has a mobile PT clinic! We are asking for help, as a package of 5 hydrotherapy sessions (walking on a treadmill in water) is $1250. Our goal is to have 2 sessions a month to stop and hopefully reverse the losses he's suffered over the past 9 months. Brooklyn is a hard worker who loves his physical therapist and PT. He truly is our emotional support animal, and after all he's been through, it hurts to see him struggling without the therapy.
