My grandfather, Brock Smith, was at work September 13th when he suffered a massive stroke. He has since been in the ICU, and he has a long road of recovery ahead. He has paralysis on the right side of his body but responds well on the left. Following his first stroke, my grandpa developed pneumonia due to aspiration of liquids that he was trying to swallow. Since then, his temperature has raised to 105°F, he has lost his ability to talk, and has been on a ventilator machine to help his lungs and body heal. One week into his stay in the ICU, Brock was no longer able to eat, therefore he was put on a feeding tube. Throughout this time, my grandfather has gotten a few blood clots and had to have a surgery to insert a mesh filter in his abdomen. Later we found out that he wasn’t able to eat due to Sepsis. He then had to go into emergency surgery to save his kidneys. The surgeons removed his whole colon and most of his small intestine, he now has an ileostomy. Due to the sepsis infection, his brain suffered another massive stroke. He is still on the ventilator while we wait for his organ function to improve. Please help my Grandpa heal on his long road to recovery. Background Information:
Compassionate, strong, and full of life. Those are only few of the many positive words people use to describe my grandfather, Brock. Blessing the world everyday with his presence and cheerful smile, my grandpa holds a special place in all of our hearts. He is a man of his word and a patron of kindness. Brock and his wife, Arlene, share three beautiful daughters; Ariane, Amber, and Alaura. Along with his daughters, he has two amazing son in laws, Jon and Chris. As well as me, Paris, his loving granddaughter. Being a family man, Brock enjoys life being able to live close to kin. He has been a hard worker all of his life and a dedicated Lock Smith for the Naval Hospital on the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton for 13 years. He gives his all and much more in everything he does. He conquers every situation, big or small, with an open mind and confidence. My grandfather is as strong as a deep rooted tree, as gentle as the wind on an autumn night, and loves others as much as the sun loves the moon. He has ears that truly listen, arms that always hold, love that’s never ending, and a heart that’s made of gold. My family and I are asking for any donations and any prayers to help my grandfather through this tough time. Thank you so much and may God bless you and keep you always.
