Please Help Brianne Rebuild Her Home
Donation protected
Hello World, Friends, Family,
This is a crowd-sourcing campaign to help Brianne Chasanoff rebuild her beloved home on Candlewood Lake after a tornado destroyed it, leaving her homeless. She is expected to pay an estimated $40,000 in expenses not covered by insurance to rebuild her home and replace her belongings. This campaign is created by her friends to subsidize her out-of-pocket expenses. The work on her home needs to be completed by May 15, 2019. After that date the insurance company will not cover the cost of off-site lodging. Please help in anyway you can. Any contribution will be gratefully appreciated. Please share far and wide on all social media platforms.
Below you will find her story and a list of repairs and cost estimates.
Who Is Brianne…
As many of you know, Brianne is a remarkable person and a dedicated friend. One who would, quite literally, give you the shirt off her back. While she is a dedicated music teacher, her lifelong passion is singing and songwriting. Her skill and talent is paralleled by few. (Give her music a listen, you will not be disappointed!) Brianne is also deeply connected to her family and her history. It is Brianne’s love of nostalgia that plays a big part of this story.

Candlewood Lake and the Lake House…
Growing up, Brianne would reminisce about her grandparents’ house on Candlewood Lake in Connecticut. A small, charming home nestle on a hill, surrounded by giant, protective trees with a view of the lake. She’d talk about learning to swim on the lake and how her grandfather would take her and her brother Glenn jet skiing. She loved that house and the summer memories cultivated on the lake.

Time passed and so did her beloved grandfather, leaving the lake house to relatives to sell. Brianne’s heart broke at the prospect of selling the home and all the memories contained within. So, she bought it, promptly moved in and lived there full time. She loved the house and cared for it well. Over the years she flung open the doors to countless gatherings with old and new friends and family. All were welcome. It was also the home where she fell in love with Mary, now her beloved partner. The home of her fondest childhood memories became the source of new memories accompanied by laughter, food, drink - and of course music!

5.15.18…
A series of vicious storms blew threw Western Connecticut and several border-towns in New York. Storms in the Spring and Summer are fairly common to this area, however, this storm was different. People spoke about possible power outages and severe damage. News reporting encouraged people to stay off the roads and find safe shelter. Then the winds and rain picked up on Candlewood Lake.
Brianne was inside her home.

As the storm was rattling the windows and shaking the house, Brianne found refuge in the basement. She spoke to me of the fear she felt as the lights went out. Above, tree limbs pounded the house as winds rocked the frame. Her fear grew. There was a series of several loud crashes that shook the foundation. Suddenly, water began gushing down the walls and pouring from the ceiling above. The sounds grew louder. Brianne feared she wouldn’t make it out alive. A tornado tore through her property.

Broken…
Brianne emerged to a horrific scene. Trees had fallen directly onto the house, shifting the entire roof and exposing much of the interior. The rains continued to fall. Many of her belongings were destroyed. She went outside to survey the damage and she saw trees uprooted from the earth, the stone wall crumbled to the ground, the roof precariously teetering on crooked walls. When surveyors saw the house they deemed it an immediate danger and Brianne had just moments to gather what belongings had not been damaged and leave. The house on Candlewood Lake was destroyed.

A Silver Lining…
Brianne has been living in a rental for nine months and will continue until her home is rebuilt. Her insurance company will only reimburse her rental payments until May 15th of this year, creating an imminent deadline to complete restoration of the home. What’s more, the insurance company paid only half of what she claimed to replace lost and damaged belongings. We’ve calculated that this creates a shortfall of $40,000 of needed funds. We are here to ask you to please contribute what you can to help Brianne rebuild her home and start to creating new joyful memories.
Estimates…
Here is an itemized list of repairs and costs that are not covered by insurance:
-Cracks in the foundation and drying the basement = $6,500
-Build basement Floor = $4,500
-Clear fallen trees and stumps = $6,500
-Septic removal and replacement = $15,995
-Replacing outdoor stone work, walkways and stairs = $2,200
-Miscellaneous, hidden and unexpected costs and repairs = $4,500

Thank you for reading and we hope you can help.
Namaste. Love and Blessings.
