Funds for Portia's memorial & end of life expenses

This GoFundMe campaign was created to help Steven “Blade” Ogburn after the untimely passing of his beautiful and kind wife, Portia McHenry Ogburn, on 27 June 2022. In the days, weeks, and months that have passed, Blade has had to bear the financial and logistical burdens of funeral services and government red tape while grieving and struggling through every minute of every day. These have been heavy burdens to bear. These are not unique burdens but uniquely Blade’s to shoulder. While we can’t take away his pain and sorrow, we can at least help reduce the financial strain and give Blade some room to grieve, breathe, and rebuild his life without his loving and trusted companion, friend, and business partner.

Blade and Portia shared their first kiss as kids in 1964. After growing up and living separate lives in adulthood, they reunited later in life. They have spent the past twenty-four years as the first couple of graffiti. Their story is one of love, enduring friendship, and perseverance. Blade’s contributions to the art world and graffiti culture are immeasurable. He has inspired several generations of graffiti writers around the globe. As friends and fans alike, let’s pull together to show Blade how much he is loved and appreciated through our generous contributions. This campaign is an opportunity to give back and lift the spirits of a grieving husband, a husband who is also an inspirational figurehead to so many writers, historians, and art enthusiasts.

About me: My name is Matt. I have had the good fortune of calling Blade and Portia friends since a chance meeting in 2019. They have shown me, my family, and some dear friends boundless kindness and generosity since that time. My son still wears pajamas gifted to him by his “auntie Portia.” I feel compelled to reciprocate their kindness. I’m saddened that Portia will never have the opportunity to meet my son in person, to see him grow into a man. I started this GFM campaign on behalf of Blade and in honor of Portia.

This campaign was created with the full knowledge, consent, and approval of Blade. All of the net funds will go directly to him. Every contribution will help, large or small.
