Please help Bart fight cancer!

In June 2019, my beloved friend, Bart Fraizer was diagnosed with Stage 4 peritoneal carcinoma, a rare form of cancer.  This is the second time Bart has been faced with this life-threatening disease. At the age of 19 years old and on a football scholarship to California, Bart was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) which, immediately ended his football career. He spent the next two years of his life fighting this disease as a part of a research study, receiving full body radiation, a bone marrow transplant, and many months in isolation away from his family and friends. Although Bart won the battle back then, his current doctors believe the treatment he received for CML weakened his immune system and is one of the causes for his cancer today. 

Since his recent diagnosis, Bart has been fighting hard every day to survive. His positive attitude and will to live is inspiring. Due to Bart’s aggressive chemotherapy treatments and low immune system, he is no longer able to work due to constant fatigue, pain and vomiting. His wife, Jen, works full-time to support their family and manage Bart’s care, while at the same time, strives to maintain normalcy for their sons, Will (8) and Jack (7). Jen spends countless hours helping Bart research and pursue medical treatment options while “jumping through all of the hoops” with their insurance company to request approval of coverage for necessary cancer treatment and medications. Bart continues to lose weight as his appetite is suppressed due to the origin of the tumor being in the lining of his stomach. Surgery is not an option. During his consult this month, doctors informed Bart and Jen that the chemo he is receiving is no longer working.  They continue to fight and are hopeful as they wait, yet again, for their insurance company to approve immune therapy so that Bart can begin treatment. The two prescriptions that Bart needs to help reduce his nausea and increase his appetite cost over $2,000.00 per month as the insurance company is denying coverage.  These costs, in addition to, the family’s other medical costs for Bart’s treatment are overwhelming.

With so many unknowns still to come, all money raised through Bart’s GoFundMe will be used to cover the costs of his medical expenses including, prescriptions needed to provide him comfort.
