Hi everyone! I’m starting a go fund me for my long time friend Rachel and her family. Their baby Myles has been in the hospital fighting since birth. All proceeds will go towards helping for medical expenses, travel time and anything else that is needed so the family can be at some ease! Rachel also wrote out more details which is as followed;
Hi everyone,
My name is Rachel, and as many of you know, we welcomed twins on October 25. Since their arrival, we have been staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Hamilton due to our son Myles’ medical needs.
Myles was born with Crouzon syndrome, a rare genetic condition that causes the bones in the skull to fuse too early. This affects the shape of his head and face and has led to significant breathing challenges. His journey is just beginning, and he will require multiple surgeries throughout his childhood and into his teenage years.
During his time at McMaster Children’s Hospital, Myles underwent nasal surgery in hopes of improving his airway. Unfortunately, it was not successful enough for him to breathe independently and safely return home. As a result, he has since required both a G-tube for feeding and a tracheostomy. He will also need to be on a ventilator overnight.
We have now been given a new discharge date for the end of June. Josh and myself have spent hours on end at the hospital daily with Myles doing his feeds, meds, stoma care and other things to try and get him where he needs to be.
In preparation, Josh, myself, and two of Myles’ grandparents are completing extensive training to ensure we can properly care for his trach and medical needs at home.
As we get closer to our discharge date we are facing the reality of the ongoing costs associated with his care. While some medical equipment and support are covered, a significant portion is not. Myles will require over $10,000 in medical equipment each year, including one essential machine that costs $3,000 out of pocket.
As much as we never wanted to ask for financial help, supporting Myles’ care while preserving our savings for his future has become increasingly difficult. Any contribution, no matter the amount, would go directly toward ensuring Myles has everything he needs to be safe, comfortable, and well cared for at home.
If you’re not in a position to donate, sharing this page would mean just as much to us.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support, kindness, and love during this time.
