I started this GoFundMe for one of my dearest friends, Aaron Velez.
Those of you who know him already know that he is the first person to show up and help, no matter who needs the help (or what needs to be done). He is always ready with a smile, a joke, a hug, a meal. He is the best bonus brother I could have ever hoped for.
But recently, Aaron had to have both of his legs amputated due to an infection.
Many people going through this type of situation may lose hope or fall into a deep depression. But not my bonus brother! He never lost hope, faith, love, or his sense of humor! The doctors even said he was a one-in-a-million patient. Most of them had never seen anything like the resilience of this awesome guy! He is strong and has the love of so many supporting him. He will make it through this ordeal.
But he needs help. The one who is always there for others... needs help.
Aaron's physical wounds are healing, but now the real journey begins! He will be learning to use prosthetics soon - that means re-learning how to do everyday things that the rest of us are lucky enough to take for granted. Currently, both Aaron and his wife are unable to work. In addition to everyday costs (housing, utilities, groceries), they now need to purchase prosthetics, add home renovations, and possibly a new vehicle with a chair lift... And that is just the beginning. Insurance alone will not support all of these needs.
I started this GoFundMe in the hopes that our extended family and circle of amazing friends will help ease a little bit of the financial burden and help Aaron out a little bit right now. Especially at this critical juncture in his physical therapy and healing.
A little financial support from the community will go a very long way to lighten their load. Even if all you can give is a few dollars, this will make a big difference for them on the road ahead!
Aaron and Ashley are not just friends - they are family.
Please help me support my family through this unforeseeable event. Any amount is greatly appreciated!
