Cruz and Her Two Sons After the Loss of Javier

My name is Cruz Alejandra Sanchez, and I am reaching out with a heavy heart. I came to the United States in 2004 from León, Guanajuato, Mexico, with dreams of saving money and building a better future. Life had other plans when I met Javier, the love of my life.

Javier was shy, but we quickly became inseparable. We married in June 2007, and over the years, we built a beautiful family with our two sons, Samuel (16) and David (10). Javier adored our boys, especially David, who shared his kind heart and gentle nature.

In 2015, Javier was diagnosed with lupus, and while the early years were difficult, he worked hard to get better and return to the life he loved. But the pandemic disrupted his care, and earlier this year, his health began to decline. Despite countless doctor visits, his condition worsened, and he suffered a heart attack in May.

Javier spent nearly six months in the hospital battling a rare disease called subacute demyelinating polyneuropathy. Finally, in October, he came home to us. We cherished those last precious weeks together—drinking coffee on the porch, singing songs, and sharing our love. On November 5th, he passed away peacefully in my arms, saying his final words: “I love you. Forgive me.”

Now, I face life as a widow with two young boys, overwhelming hospital bills, and a single income from cleaning houses. I am determined to provide for my family, but I can’t do it alone.
