Please Help Adam Ford and His Family Beat Cancer

The hope for a better year than 2020, was short-lived for Jason and Christina Ford, when in January, their 12-year old son Adam was diagnosed with an extremely rare form of childhood cancer called 'Undifferentiated Embryonal Sarcoma of the liver'.

Adam is the youngest of three, he has two older sisters Jorden and Kiara. His home is on Havilah Station. He is an inquisitive, gentle natured country kid, who loves the outdoors and animals, especially his dog Trixie and brood of chickens. This was to be Adam's first year at high school and he was eager to be starting this next chapter with his fellow year seven classmates.

It was the 12th of November 2020 when Jason and Christina were first alerted that something wasn't right. Adam was at his swimming lessons, doing a lap of butterfly, when he felt pain and discomfort on the right side of his abdomen. He was taken to the local hospital where he was examined and sent home with a suspected pulled muscle. A second visit to the hospital with the same symptoms and swelling on the right side, was again diagnosed as a pulled muscle. It wasn't until the third visit on the 9th of January, that Adam was referred to Mackay Hospital for further investigation, In Mackay, doctors quickly identified a 15 cm mass on Adam's liver and he was immediately transferred by air to Queensland's Children's Hospital (QCH) in Brisbane. An offical diagnosis was made on the 15th of January, five days later, Adam endured a 10-hour operation to remove the tumour. In doing so, they also had to remove a portion of his liver and bowel. Due to the nature of this cancer,  chemotherapy needed to commence as soon as he was strong enough.

Adam's treatment of chemotherapy and radiation is expected to be ongoing for the next 12 months in Brisbane. Christina has had to stop working to remain in Brisbane with him. The stress of Adam's diagnosis and treatment is compounded by the difficult reality of a family that will have to cope living 1200 km apart for the duration, as well as the increased financial strain due to a loss of one income.

In the past few weeks, this 12-year old boy has been in the fight of his life. He has shown incredible strength and resilience and in spite of his current circumstances has retained the same cheeky sense of humour. He has come a long way already, with a long way still to go.

Many people have come forward wanting to help. The Collinsville community spirit has already kicked in, with fundraisers held at Collinsville State Primary and High School. We have set up this page, in the hope of raising further funds to relieve some of the financial burden of the many costs associated with supporting a family in this situation on limited income and essentially, the expense of travel to help bring this family together as much as possible.

Throughout this ordeal, Adam's main focus has been to get back to Havilah. Please join us in supporting this special young man and his family in their fight to beat cancer, so he can go home.

Please donate if you can and/or share the link to this page so we can reach as many people as possible.

On behalf of Adam's family, your love, generosity and support are greatly appreciated.
