Trans/Disabled Mutual Aid Organizer Needs Housing Autonomy
Greetings! My name is JenDerless (he/they), a 42-year-old disabled mutual aid organizer that's spent years traveling around helping people with harm reduction efforts and material relief from floods or other natural disasters. I'm hoping to purchase, or provide a large down payment on, this travel trailer home (updated link here) and re-establish harm reduction/community Librarian/Archivist efforts in the Tampa Bay area while having fully secure housing, as I face increased discrimination for being transgender and disabled. Your donation will be a huge help!
A few years ago, I moved back to where I grew up due to housing issues in Tampa, where my work is centered. Coming back has been helpful; I received proper healthcare physically and mentally, along with finding work as an intern in a new field that's allowed me to pay off the vast majority of my debt. However, this is not the place I've built up an organizing community, and it's time to get back to my harm reduction efforts in Florida. By purchasing this trailer, I'll be able to ensure permanent, secure housing, which leaves me in a much better place to help the people of Tampa Bay.
In addition, by purchasing this mobile home, it allows me to travel affordably and provide mutual aid for disaster relief as nature dictates, and the ability to own it outright staves off many mechanisms of oppression I face for being trans and disabled. Thank you!
