Please Help a Juvenile Golden Eagle recover from his injurie
Donation protected

My name is Byron Smith.
As an avid explorer and history enthusiast, I often spend time exploring our Mountains, Canadiana, discovering Buffalo Jumps and kill sites, and undocumented Native Rock Art in Southwestern Alberta. During a recent exploration, I encountered a juvenile Golden Eagle in critical distress—bloodied, battered, and lying motionless on a slope above me on an intensely hot 34°C day. It appeared the eagle had been in a confrontation with its sibling, as I witnessed the other bird fly off from the area.
Without access to cell service and unsure how best to help, I returned home to research wildlife rescue resources. Early the next morning, I drove back to the area, hoping to find the eagle still alive. Remarkably, I found it in the same spot, now standing but still unable to move far.
I immediately drove to an area with cell coverage and contacted Alberta Fish and Wildlife, who referred me to the Alberta Birds of Prey Foundation. I reached out to Colin, the Foundation’s owner, who agreed to meet me at the location within 90 minutes.
With Colin’s 50 years of experience working with birds of prey, we were able to safely secure the injured eagle. Colin transported the bird to a specialist veterinarian in Coaldale, where it received immediate medical treatment. The young eagle suffered a severe eye injury and may ultimately lose the eye; if that occurs, he will remain at the Alberta Birds of Prey Foundation for ongoing care rather than being released back into the wild.
I am seeking your support to help cover the significant veterinary and rehabilitation expenses required for the care and recovery of this magnificent eagle. Any contribution will directly benefit his medical treatment and quality of life at the Alberta Birds of Prey Foundation. Charity number is 89653 5895 RR001
Thank you for your kindness and support for Alberta’s wildlife and the conservation of these incredible birds of prey.
See you at the Top!
