Update 02/10/2020 - Avishka is recovering great. Please see the pictures attached.
Update 02/05/2020 -100% of GOAL REACHED!! In addition to $1550 raised directly from this site we have raised another $2960 in Sri Lanka and US through cash contributions/pending pledges totaling to $4510 - 100% of our goal. Thank you for all your contributions and please refrain from further contributions. We have remitted a total of SLR 701,928.50 directly to Access Intl (Please see updates section for remittance receipts).
Great news!!! After a 5 hour surgery, a large tumor has been removed from his upper leg bone and the bone has been replaced by the prosthesis. According to the surgeon Avishka should be able to walk again soon with his left leg at near perfection. Please see pictures below and stay tuned for further updates in the next few days on his recovery. Thank you all for making this possible. May you be blessed abundantly!
Avishka Randev Maddumage is 17 years old. He is suffering from Chondroblastic OsteoSarcoma, which is a high-grade cancer in the bone, from the left hip to the knee.
According to Dr K. G. Karunaratne (Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon), to save him an immediate surgery needs to be done. For the surgery, a DISTAL FEMUR MEGA PROSTHESIS LEFT KNEE need to be imported from India through Access International. The cost for the Prosthesis is Sri Lankan Rs 820,000/- (apprx.US $ 4500.00). In addition to this the family has much more expenses which they have to bear.
My brother and I met Avishka's mother for the first time during a visit to the Maharagama Cancer Hospital in Sri Lanka on December 26th. We saw the desperation in her eyes and voice as she related the situation to us. The parents were desperately looking for an organization or individuals to kindly help them with funds to help make the payment to Access International to import the prosthesis and help them save their child.
We have since received pertaining information from them (please see diagnosis and cost information below) and verified all the facts to be completely legitimate. We are hoping to raise $4500 through this campaign to cover the cost for the Prosthesis.
The child's father, Mr. H. M. Ajantha, can be contacted at (+94) 712542854. The mother, Mrs K. G. Sandamali can be contacted at (+94) 705158045.
The parents have failed to obtain government and other organizational assistance. The surgery needs to happen by January 29th due to the severity of the condition, therefore there is a critical urgency to raise these funds by January 20th so the Prosthesis can be imported by the surgery date. The funds collected will be wired to Sri Lanka, which will then be securely disbursed towards the payment of the prosthesis. This process in Sri Lanka will be overseen by my brother Ramesh (+94) 777351535, who will ensure the funds are used for its intended purposes. We will post all remittance, payment details and treatment updates as and when they happen with full transparency.
No amount is too little or too much. If you are unable to help financially for any reason please pray for the young man and his family at this time and share this with your friends and family.
Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity. Together we can make a difference in a young stranger's life for the better. Time is running out, but with your help we are confident that we can.
