♥️ Taysen Update 5-31-24 from his mom❤️ Adrian and I can’t ever say thank you enough for the huge response we have received for Taysen. From family, friends, and many strangers we have received such amazing thoughts, prayers, donations, and acts of service that have meant so much to us. We wish we could personally thank everyone but hope this update is a good way to reach most of you. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. It has been your kindness and love that has given us strength to endure the worst imaginable situation that we have been going through for weeks. You all make such a difference and have touched our hearts. Please keep praying for Taysen. For the medical update, his diagnosis is meningoencephalitis with thrombus (blood clots). He is fully vaccinated yet an ear infection turned into meningitis resulting in a severe infection in his brain causing blood clots throughout and stroke all within 5 days after the onset of the ear pain. Testing found he has no immune deficiency and that he has proper antibodies from the vaccinations, doctors have concluded this to be a rare “fluke”, which is extremely difficult to accept. It was a miracle we were at Primary Children’s Hospital when he had the stroke, otherwise he wouldn’t have survived. Due to the severe infection in his brain, a major concern has been swelling. Neurosurgeons placed a bolt pressure monitor in his brain and later placed an EVD which helps relieve pressure by draining CSF. He was heavily medicated, intubated, and sedated to avoid further brain injury during the first 2.5 weeks in the PICU. The bolt has been removed but the drain will remain for sometime. On May 28 a new MRI shows improvement with the blood clots, however, walled off pockets of infection remain the main concern which his medical team will continue to monitor. There is also evidence of permanent brain injury to the part of the brain responsible for motor skills. He has a very long road to recovery and it will take time to understand the full neurological impact of his injuries. Neurologists have told us that kid’s brains can create new pathways, so there is still a lot of hope for his future. He remains in the PICU and will likely stay at the hospital for a couple more weeks. Today is May 31, Tay is awake and alert, his eyes will follow who is talking, and he will nod when we ask him questions. His medical team is going to remove his breathing tube today or tomorrow. And most of all he is still our beautiful baby. On our 1st and 6th day in the PICU we were told to prepare for him to not survive, and now we are more than grateful he is still with us and fighting. We will never stop fighting for him. Hug your babies extra tight, don’t take any moment for granted. Please continue praying. We have witnessed miracles.

What started as a basic ear infection has turned into a parent’s worst nightmare!     UPDATE
May 21st - Taysen’s update. CT scans show decreased brain swelling. He is still sedated and doctors continue to monitor him closely. The CT scans and MRI show multiple areas of brain injury but only time will tell what long term impact they will have.
Taysen, is the 3 year old son of Adrian, and Jessica Baum. He has been in the fight for his life since may 10th.
After CT scans, MRI, and lots of continued lab work, doctors at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City have confirmed Taysen has a rare form of meningitis, which caused a blood infection known as “sepsis”. The infection has primarily affected the brain, resulting in blood clots, stroke, and a brain injury. Taysen is in the I.C.U.
As you are able, please send prayers, and donations for Taysen. Thank you!
