Please Help 2nd Kidney Transplan
Donation protected
Hello family and friends as most of you know my mom has been extremley sick since I was a teenager. Her sickness started when she was a teenager herself. 1 of 9 suffer from kidney disease and currently there are approximately 99k individuals in need. My mother was one of the individuals until we just were informed that I am a prefect match!!!
Unfortunately, this will be her second transplant. In July 2009 she was meant to receive a kidney from a former teacher of mine. We were very grateful for someone so heroic. However during the process of them removing my mom's kidneys she lost a lot of blood. The doctors somehow gave her the wrong blood. This ruined everything. This led to a very rough road ahead. She had to recover from the wrong blood infusions and get her blood clean enough again to have the surgery over again. She stayed in Rochester for almost two months to get dialysis and also phoresis treatments done to clean her blood or she would die. Dialysis is a procedure for kidney recipients waiting for a transplant. They must have dialysis very very often. Her Doctor recommend the phoresis treatments also. She would be in the hospital between these two treatments all day everyday the entire time she stayed in Rochester if not she would die. This made her even more sick and unable to see her family because Rochester is 2.5 hours away from our home. She was completely alone throughout the whole process. As her daughter and sonm we were heartbroken and being so far away in High school it was near impossible to visit.
A living kidney donor functions 12- 20 yrs. A deceased donor kidney function is 8- 10 yrs. My mother's function didn't even last up to 7 yrs. Due to the doctor's very big mistake.
Unfortunately, between everything she has to take a high volume of prescription pills in the a.m. and also p.m. which cost a fortune! The kidney medicine she takes in order for her kidney to function causes basil cell carcinoma and melanoma cancer. In easier terms skin cancer. She has sores from head to toe they are very painful. She had to drive 2.5 hours in PA to her cancer doctor which surgically digs into the skin and takes out the cancer which leaves a great amount of scars.
Through all of this she has stayed strong and heroic. She has lost her life to this sickness and yet she has her head held high. She is a amazing woman and a great role model to me and my brother for anyone that knows my family it will come to no suprise that both my brother and I where tested to give my Mom another kidney. Thank all the gods because after almost a year of testing I AM A MATCH!!!! The surgery is set for April 4th unless something changes.
The bad part is the recovery time after surgery will be anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks which means I will be out of work. It is unfortunate but it will be a financial hardship to do this and anything will help our goal is 10k because not only am I missing work for 8 weeks of work but travel expensive, room and board, all appointments are in Rochester. So 1.5 hour drive for me and 2.5 hour drive for my mother post surgery, medications and doctor visits after surgery. I am happy to say my mothers insurance pays for both surgeries but everything else is left to us. Please help make this happen and go smoothly for an amazing gift to this world, my Mother. You can make a difference with a small or little donation. Our family thanks you for your love and support.
