Please Help 13 yo Adam Buchta Fight Leukemia!

Donation protected

On May 7th, 2021 the Buchta family received the heartbreaking news that sweet Adam, age 13, had been diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.  Adam was immediately admitted to Cohen Children’s Medical Center in Queens.

Adam will be receiving chemotherapy treatments for the next 3.5 years. He started intensive chemotherapy on May 14, just a week after getting to the hospital. As of May 25, he has received 4 rounds of chemo and has many more to go over the next few years. He is consistently getting blood transfusions in which he has already received 10 units of blood, and 4 platelet infusions. It is unknown how long he will be in the hospital for, but we are hoping he can return home in the next month and will be able to travel back and forth from the hospital for his chemotherapy treatments. He will not be able to return to school for the next 6-9 months to avoid the risk of infection. With a long hospital stay, doctors visits, medications, and chemotherapy ahead of him, his family has picked up many new responsibilities and will do anything to give him the best possible care.

His Mom, Anna, has had to take a leave of absence from her job for the time being in order to be with Adam around the clock at the hospital. His Dad, Arek, is working from home as much as possible and taking off from work when needed to be with Adam. Adam is receiving various rounds of medication throughout the day and night and requires a parent to be with him at all times.

Adam is known as caring, smart, and the kind of person whose smile lights up any room he walks into. He loves his soccer and baseball teams and he is so excited to get back on the field.

The next 3 years will be a long battle for Adam but we are certain that his strength and positive attitude will get him through this difficult time and beat cancer. Adam looks forward to the day when he will be able to go back to Commack Middle School with his friends.

All donations will go towards expenses incurred during his stay at the hospital as well as his treatments.

Thank you to everyone who has been keeping Adam and his family in their thoughts.
