Please help me save my Rudy. Please.
I do cat rescue full time, and so I see a lot of kitties- but Rudy is special. He's such a sweet boy, and he loves to give snuggles. When I rescued him and the rest of his litter two years ago, he came right up to me crying from out of the bushes, and I was able to scoop him up and put him in a carrier. The rest of his litter wanted to be saved as well, but they were more nervous, and I had to trap them. But not Rudy- he loved people from the start. He sleeps on my bed every night, follows me from room to room, and has the tiniest baby meow.
Other than a watery eye that he's had since kittenhood, Rudy has never had any health problems- until about 2 weeks ago when I noticed one of his eyes looked very strange in the light. It was discolored, reddish, and it shone in a strange way. When I looked closer I saw that it had a large dark blob, almost like the inside of a lava lamp, floating inside of it. I rushed him right to the vet where she diagnosed him with bleeding inside the eye, and we began medicated eye drops. But within a week the other eye had started turning red as well. At his recheck appointment last Wednesday we ran a full panel of diagnostics, and by the following day it was clear something was very very wrong. His results were significantly abnormal, and indicative of a very serious infection. Last Friday we ran yet another blood test, and this morning I received the news that I was praying would not come. Rudy has a disease called Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP). Specifically he has the dry ocular version, which is the worst kind.
In FIP a cat's body has a reaction to an infection with a common respiratory virus, turning that illness from a mild annoyance into something that is invariably fatal without treatment. Rudy is going to die, if I cannot purchase the medication that he needs, and I have very little time. I have spoken with three different vets today, and all agree that I need to start treatment as soon as possible. This medication is only available through one compounding pharmacy in the United States, Stokes Pharmacy. It is not available as a ready-made medication, and no other pharmacies have a license to compound it.
I want to save my baby. I need to order the medication as soon as possible. It is a 12 week course of treatment, and the medication must be given twice a day, every single day- for 84 days. Without treatment he is going to die, probably fairly soon. If I can't pay for the medication, within a few weeks I will have to put him to sleep, because I cannot see him suffer With the medication he has a 90% chance of survival. He's only 2 years old. Please help me save him. Please
