Cherished friends and family,
I am reaching out on behalf of my dear friends Jasmine and her mom Ashley.
Five years ago, during her freshman year at UC Davis, Jasmine was diagnosed with metastatic and recurrent osteosarcoma (bone cancer). This forced her into immediate treatment and she had to leave college. The diagnosis was earth shattering, but leaving college was heartbreaking for a girl who always strived for perfect grades and excellence. So much so, that Jasmine has tried to return to college a few times during the past 5 years, always to be derailed by her cancer returning.
Jasmine is a force and has always faced her diagnosis with incredible optimism and strength. When she was told she would lose her leg, she took a Sharpie and wrote "Eileen" on the leg that would be taken. We then paraded around the 6th floor of the children's cancer ward at UCLA with the song "Come on Eileen" playing as background music! Her attitude is an inspiration to all.
Just recently, Jasmine received terrible news that her cancer has spread to several new locations including her organs. She is back on ICE chemotherapy and continues to fight. Her mom Ashley is planning to go out on medical leave to spend as much time with Jasmine as possible.
Another tragedy in all of this is that Ashley is now a single mother and the sole caretaker & provider for Jasmine.
This is where we come in. Having been in Ashley's shoes and having a child diagnosed with the same cancer, I also had to pull back from work to spend time with my son. The financial implications of this were devastating to say the least. I was helped and supported by the generosity of many friends and strangers which allowed me to spend incredibly valuable time with my Jack. We were able to do special things together and make memories without worrying about having extra money to pay the bills. The support from people who cared made this all possible.
So, I am asking you today to help if you can. All amounts are received with tremendous gratitude.
On behalf of dear Jasmine and Ashley, I thank you in advance.
Much love always.
