- Update: 13 November 2023:
Facing an overwhelming financial strain, our family is at risk of falling even farther behind on bills, amplifying the fear of not being able to create a memorable Christmas for our children. Your support can help ensure a roof over our heads and the ability to bring some holiday joy. Every contribution matters as we strive to provide for our kids. Your generosity can make a real difference in our lives during this challenging time.
As the holiday season draws near, our GoFundMe seeks support for our family as we are still struggling with overwhelming financial burdens that have been hanging over our heads for the past 18 months since Chris’s accident has made him unable to work. The traumatic brain injury he sustained on 10 May 2022 when this horrible car accident changed our lives, has additionally begun to show new symptoms such as weekly seizures and bouts of extreme confusion and painful headaches along with other symptoms that are just beginning to present even now. At this time, we are still awaiting a final decision from disability after he has already been denied twice. Chris went before the judge on 28 July 2023 with his attorney, and while the attorney was hopeful for a good result, sometimes these things don’t go the way that we need for them to go, and here it is 3 months later and we have still not received a decision or even an idea of whether we will once again need to start over with another lengthy appeal process. This has been a very hard time for our family as my full time job has been the only income that we have had, while bills continue to pile up and Christmas time with little ones is approaching. In the midst of all of this we also suffered a miscarriage in August, which has proven devastating to all of us. Providing festive cheer feels so out of reach. Your generosity can bring us some peace of mind during this time of hardship. Your donation, big or small, will directly aid in providing meals, paying our rent, allowing us to keep our youngest daughter in daycare so that I can work, and other essential support during this time of year. Your contribution ensures that our children may be able to experience the magic of the season and that we will continue to have a roof over our heads and food on the table . Thank you for considering helping our family through this difficult time. I never imagined we would be in a position where we had to beg for help, but pride is way behind us at this point, and truly all I can do is to ask for help again. We have been very blessed to receive assistance from strangers in this capacity in the past, and my prayer is that we will soon have a positive decision and a steady source of income from disability so that we will be able to pay this kindness forward. Thank you for reading and we wish you and your families a truly happy holiday season.

As many of you know, Chris and Kayleigh were in a horrific car crash on May 10. Thankfully K is alright physically, but Chris wasn’t so lucky.
He suffered a traumatic brain injury and was rushed in for a craniectomy to relieve pressure from a hematoma. They removed a palm-sized piece of skull to allow his brain to swell until they could determine that he was stable and at a low enough risk for more swelling and bleeding.
The Surgeons put this piece of skull into a deep freeze, and we were initially told that it would be 2 to 6 months until they would be able to reattach the piece. Chris had to wear a specially fitted helmet during this time to protect his brain in case of potential falls, of which he had several.
Recovery from a TBI is a long and complicated process and being released from the hospital didn't mean a return to life as it was on May 9. It means using a shower chair at 30 years old, relearning how to get in and out of the bathtub, navigating a walker around a toddler, being chauffeured around town, and going without Chris’s life-saving blood thinners until the risk of replacing the missing skull piece was minimal enough to his health.
This skull replacement didn't happen until July 8, almost 2 months after the initial crash and injury. Thankfully, he was able to successfully undergo a second craniectomy to replace the skull piece that he was missing.
On July 14 it was learned that since the crash, the leg pain Chris has been experiencing is actually due to a previously undiagnosed broken pelvis. This explains some of the issues he's been having with walking, and the scariest part... falling. He has been in the ER numerous times in the past few weeks due to injuries he's sustained at home. As of July 16, Chris has been readmitted to the hospital to treat his pain and they are considering having him stay Inpatient for a period if time to address these issues.
In addition to the loss of Chris’ income, I’ve had to take time from work and it’s likely I’ll miss more. The bills are still coming, though. We’re asking for your help keeping Kayleigh in daycare so I can work as much as possible, making sure the lights stay on, keeping a roof over our head and feeding our bellies while we learn how to navigate our new normal. The minimum donation on Go Fund Me is only $5, and every single dollar will help more than you know. We’re so grateful for all of you who’ve supported us during these first two months.
Thank you.
