Hey there! My name is Paula Chavez and I am the Union President for FCI Big Spring.
Over the course of the past three years, the Roper family has gone through unimaginable obstacles in dealing with health issues.
Jaye, Jimmy’s wife, was home bound and on daily dialysis from May 2020 thru October 2021. Jimmy, and their two sons were her constant care givers & cheer leaders.
This past October, through a local resident, God saw fit to bless Jaye, with a kidney transplant. Following she had a two month hospital stay and today she is still recovering and not released.
Through all of that Jimmy began having his own health issues, which lead to several hospital stays and surgeries. Then in February, our friend & co-worker was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
In March they planned on surgery to remove a tumor, but during the procedure, the doctors found the cancer had moved to his liver, making his new diagnosis stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
On April 21st Jimmy had another set back & today he is hospitalized in FT Worth & fighting for his life.
Jimmy Roper began his career with the Bureau of Prisons in 2009 as a Correctional Officer. In 2012 he moved over to his current position as FCI Big Spring’s HVAC Foreman.
But Jimmy is much more than this. He is a devoted co-worker. One of those guys that doesn’t just do his job, but is happy to help you do your’s, see you be successful and expects nothing in return. If it kicks off, he’s coming. He cares, he leaves it and us better than he found.
Jimmy has made the Bureau a family affair. His nephew Billy and son, Dylan also work at BIG.
If you know Jimmy, you know he doesn’t accept help easily and gives it quickly. We are a prideful bunch. He’s allowing us to do this because, as always, he’s putting others, right now his family, first.
Even $1 will help. He’s got a long road ahead, and isn’t supporting them through it the least we can do?
All money raised will go straight to the Roper family. Anything you can give, to include thoughts and prayers, will be so appreciated!
