Mike Szewczyk joined BCU last year as a Superintendent in the New York/ NJ division. For me Mike is not only a valued colleague but has been a very close friend over the last 10 years. Mike is a hard-working individual, and the ultimate team player. He’s the type of person who goes out of his way to help others in need without hesitation. Outside of work, Mike is one of the main care takers for his brother who is permanently handicapped. Five years ago, Mike’s mother endured a serious stroke. He and his family consistently spent numerous hours each day helping her to rehabilitate and were successful in aiding her back to a state that was manageable. Last week she unfortunately suffered another serious stroke, and the hard work over the past five years has been completely lost.
Mike’s father does his best to care for his brother and his mother on a day-to-day basis. Mike and his sisters all work full time high demanding jobs, but also try to pitch in at home to care for their brother and will now assist in restarting the rehab process to help get their mother back to a point that is manageable.
Mike has expressed to me that coming to work for him is a release, but I know that the weight of what is going on at home coupled with a demanding work schedule is not easy. I am setting up this go-fund-me in the hopes of alleviating some of the financial stress Mike and his family now face in caring for his mother. Her road to recovery will be long with physical therapy, needed medical equipment, additional caretakers, transportation costs, etc., all while also caring for his permanently disabled brother.
We are looking to support Mike and his family during this difficult time. If you would consider helping to ease the financial burden and resultant stress his family is facing, it would be greatly appreciated.
