Hi, my name is Heather and I'm running my first Half Marathon on Sunday 4th May!
I am raising funds to donate to Lucky Hens Rescue Wigan and Whitegate Animal Sanctuary Wirral (Whitegate is in a separate GoFund Me campaign here: https://gofund.me/5a07cbff)
Lucky Hens Rescue Wigan are a not for profit organisation and animal sanctuary, run entirely by volunteers. They are dedicated to rehoming hens from the commercial egg production sector to suitable homes where the hens can live out their lives in a natural environment. They also educate people about the egg industry and egg hatching projects.
Hens that are used in the egg industry are sent to slaughter at the age of 72 weeks, when their egg production usually drops slightly. Caged hens who spend their lives in very small cages laying eggs that can be bought in supermarkets, are usually sent for slaughter at around 18 months old. Kept in horribly cramped and awful conditions (yes, even "free range") and never seeing daylight, these birds deserve much better.
Lucky Hens keep any poorly hens that are rescued and nurses them back to health before finding them forever homes.
The egg industry is a very cruel and short life for these wonderful animals, who have so much personality if allowed to live their natural lifespans in comfort and safety - Something every animal should be free to do.
Any donations sent to help this wonderful organisation that does so much for these lovely hens would be beyond appreciated. You can read more about them here https://luckyhensrescue.com/
Thank you so much!
“Animals are here with us, not for us."
