On January 3rd, 2023, Liam and Lucas Curtin escaped from their bedroom window and fell into the pond in front of their house. They were found by their mother, Amanda. She pulled them out of the water. Liam was still breathing but Lucas was not. She started CPR until EMS got there. When EMS got there they got Liam to Shelby hospital and not long after that Lucas as well. It took 2 hours to get Lucas a heartbeat back. So they transferred both boys to Levine's children's hospital in Charlotte. Both boys were admitted to CCU. Liam got to go home on the 10th of January and is doing well. Lucas is still in the hospital CCU and will be in there for a little over 3 months. He is in more severe condition than Liam was.

While his brain was without oxygen it effected the center of his brain that controls his motor skills, so he will be in a wheelchair and require medical equipment. They will have to build a ramp, renovate the bathroom, and try to find a handicap accessible van. Lucas will also have to have surgeries before he can come home as well as extensive therapies.
