Hello My name is Lina and I am a friend of Sofia's parents Caitlin & Patrick, I am trying to raise some funds to help them financially at this difficult time, Anything donated is very appreciated!

Here is a little backstory on Sofia's journey so far,

Our journey so far on dealing with a disease known as Biliary Atresia (BA).
Sofia was born a perfectly healthy baby, she developed jaundice which is very common in a newborn baby. By her 48 hour check up she was cleared, that was until her 2 month checkup when it returned, and from there we went to get blood done to check her bilirubin levels. The blood test results proved Sofia’s condition was far from common. We had our blood test at New Market hospital which is where we briefly found out about Biliary Atresia , a rare liver disease that blocks the tubes that carry bile from the liver to the gallbladder, and she needed a transplant. From there we went to sickkids and is where we stayed for the next three weeks. After many blood tests, ultrasounds, x ray and a biopsy it was confirmed that Sofia has BA. But because it was caught while Sofia was under 100 days old we were given the opportunity to have a Kassai Surgery, which is a procedure where they remove the Gaul bladder and attached the intestines to the liver in hopes of the bial processing that way and for her liver to heal itself which would allow her to keep her liver. Although they mentioned that her liver had stage 3 fibrosis, which means her liver was damaged with the scar tissue we still went ahead with the surgery in hopes that it would work. After the Kassai surgery you are given more or less a 3 month window span to see if it worked and in Sofia’s case 2 months post op her levels were basically stuck and not lowering which has lead the surgeon and the GI team and specialist to believe Sofia will need a liver transplant. So here we are today, 3 months post op and have started our journey for transplant. Sofia has done and completed all tests such as an ECHO, heart ultrasound, an x-ray, a GRF scan, an ultrasound and many many blood tests to be put on the transplant list. It is now a waiting game to see if and when there’s a match for Sofia, Sofia has the blood type O+ which means she can only receive from someone who has a blood type of O, and she will only need a piece of an adult liver because livers do regrow themselves. It sure has been a rollercoaster of emotions we are still beyond blessed to have our baby girl here with us, however we are asking if anyone would be interested in helping Sofia. If so please feel free to share and reach out to me as I have more information on how to become a donor. I appreciate anyone who took the time to read about our journey so far

This is very important to me and I know Sofia & her parents will appreciate any help!
The funds raised will help with Medications primarily as well as Hospital expenses etc.

Once there are any updates we will also be updating here so everyone is up to date on Sofia's journey.

once again Thank you to anyone that took the time to read this & any donations made are truly appreciated from the bottom of our hearts!
