My name is Farnoosh Maha Abasi. I'm an artist and a writer, and I am raising funds to publish my book.
FRAGRANT WATERS is a memoir of my search for identity and self-acceptance in Vancouver, Paris, Portugal, Buenos Aires, and Iran. Along the way, I fell in love, struggled with crippling health issues, became obsessed with creating art, and found success, but I was always fighting not to lose myself in alienation and despair. My memoir is one woman’s story of detangling from the unconscious threads that have trapped her in stories about herself and others.
FRAGRANT WATERS is my personal story, but it speaks to the narrative common amongst all humans. By bringing my story to life, I hope to contribute to the people of Iran, who have been misunderstood and misrepresented for decades, and give voice to the Iranians currently risking their lives to be heard.
I was born in Iran and moved to Canada with my family in 1989 at the age of twelve. I have a Fine Arts and Education degree, which has led me to live and work in various parts of the world. After a severe injury ten years ago, I was left with a physical disability. As a result, I stopped creating art and took comfort in writing as a form of creative expression, which gave birth to this memoir.
Thank you for supporting my project, which I consider my life's work.
Warm regards,
