We are friends & classmates of Carolina Ruiz, whose mom, Maria, recently underwent a major brain surgery to remove a large tumor. The surgery was incredibly expensive and her mom will require considerable follow-up care and treatment. Maria is a relentlessly kind and big-hearted person and has always been there for her daughter and grandson. She has supported Carolina through years of school and as she raised her son and now, they really want to be able to take care of her as she goes through this challenging time.

Carolina is a dedicated single mom and daughter, a hard-working PhD student who is committed to helping others through her work, and a really caring friend. She will likely have to take on significant debt to support her mother's care and is already juggling a lot between taking care of her son, school and work responsibilities, and multiple weekly trips to help her mom attend medical visits.
