my name is Grace and I'm fundraising for my dear friend, Jess and her family...
They were dancing in December.
It was Christmas, and Roger and Jess celebrated the season with a party at their new home in Nova Scotia, surrounded by their four beautiful daughters and friends.
I talked with Roger just before Christmas, and he proudly updated me on the progress of each of his girls and his incredible wife, Jess, a well-loved primary school teacher. All of his dreams and goals for his family were being fulfilled. It was a joyful call.
Less than two months later, the family received devastating news: Roger had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
He called to tell me. I was in disbelief, but Roger remained calm. His unwavering faith in the purpose of life shone through as he spoke confidently about life after death and the joyful reunions he would have with his mom, friends who already passed away, and his Saviour.
Pancreatic cancer is recognized for being highly aggressive. Yet despite the extensive pain he was experiencing and the rapid decline in his physical strength, Roger remained determined to baptize his third daughter before he left us. With the support of his wife and close friends from their church, on Sunday March 23rd, he fulfilled this goal.
However, just three days later, Roger experienced a medical emergency and was rushed to the hospital, where he was placed in palliative care. He passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Saturday April 5th.
Roger's wife and daughters hold a special place in my heart. They face an uphill battle making ends meet on a single income while raising four young girls.
Jess is one of the hardest-working people I know. But now, she must balance meeting her family’s necessities—mortgage payments, bills, and providing for their daughters—while also spending precious time with them.
This situation is made even more difficult by the fact that she will not be able to claim Roger’s pension for another two decades, and has recently discovered that Roger's life insurance claim is ineligible.
Jess believes that she and Roger will one day dance again. In the meantime, she faces the painful challenge of losing her beloved husband while figuring out how to comfort and raise her daughters and meet their family expenses on her own.
She needs our help.
