This isn’t easy for me, but I’m asking my friends to please help me to help my daughter.

Shan has a genetic mutation called Factor V Leiden which affects around 3 in 100 people. Out of those 3, the faulty gene usually stays silent and doesn’t misbehave, with less than 10% of those affected suffering a life threatening DVT or PE.

Unfortunately my daughter has broken all of those odds, and is in the very rare position of clotting multiple times in the last 8 years, with many DVTs in both of her legs and 2 life threatening Pulmonary Embolisms. Her lifelong anticoagulation has failed, and last week she was changed to a high level of injection alongside warfarin. This was all decided in A & E at our local hospital, as the haematology department have not seen my daughter since her diagnosis in 2014, as the seriousness of her continual clotting hasn’t warranted investigation. 28 years of age, with a small child and blood that clots frequently - and she isn’t worth 30 minutes of a haematologists time, to investigate why this keeps happening to her, what other issues are wrong with her blood, and why I spend most days in fear of losing my daughter.

In 1:4 people with pulmonary embolism the first symptom is death. This fear is very painful, exhausting and traumatising to have to deal with.

My daughter can’t ever fly long haul. There are foods she can’t eat because it affects her blood, and at the moment she can’t work as she is too unwell.

I am trying to raise money for us to be consulted on an ongoing basis by the top haematologist in the country who specialises in her thrombophilia. She has been failed very badly by our local NHS Trust, and enough is enough. It’s going to be very expensive for her to be seen regularly under private care in London, but she is my daughter and absolutely nothing is more precious or valuable than our children.

I really hope that some of my friends can try and help me to do this. I know money is very tight for everyone, but I would be so incredibly grateful for any donation. Thank you.
