We are saddened to share that our dear friend Cheryl Wakerhauser, a beloved Portland restauranteur and supporter of the local wine community, was violently mauled by a dog last week while out for a run. She suffered severe injuries, including over 35 puncture wounds to both legs and her right arm that required a visit to the ER and extensive medical treatment. We are reaching out to our community for support and assistance.
Cheryl is a true icon in Portland’s food and beverage scene. She is a creative and innovative pastry chef known for her delectable desserts that marry unexpected flavors in delicious and playful ways. Her business, Pix Patisserie, has been a staple in Portland for 21 years, bringing joy, delight, and memories to all who have visited. Many of you may have enjoyed a bottle of champagne and sherry while there, two of Cheryl's passionate wine interests from small grower-producers, which she championed and drove a focus to before most knew much about them. This love for food and wine always spills into the community with so many donations over the years to local schools and fundraisers. If you have ever been to a Dessert Dash in Portland, there was probably a Pix cake there.
We know that Chery's medical bills will be extensive, and we want to do everything we can to support her during this difficult time. Please consider donating to this GOFUNDME campaign to help Cheryl pay for her medical expenses and ensure that she can continue to share her talent and passion with all of us. I know she is looking forward to getting back on her feet and eventually teaching pastry and wine classes, sharing her knowledge and a fun experience with all of you.
